Mr. Welch was the music teacher at Trona High School during the 1948-1949 school year. He began to assemble the musicians that would be carried into greatness by George Pilcher in future school years.
Obituary
Joseph Edward Welch a former teacher of the Plumas Unified School District, died after a lengthy illness at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Red Bluff. Welch born in Salida, Colorado on May 6, 1924, was a veteran of World War II having served in the Air Force. He was a member of the Blue Lodge, Royal Mason and Eastern Star in Westwood and the Red Bluff Elks Lodge 1250. Teaching band at Chester High School, Welch lived in Chester for 21 years, retiring in 1978.
Survived by his wife Mildred of Red Bluff, Welch also has four surviving brothers and two sisters. They are: Jay Welch of Lake Stevens, Washington, C.B. Welch of Singapore, Steven Welch of Marshall Islands, Allen Welch of Fresno, Theda Finlay of Chester, Judy Farrington of Susanville.
No services were planned.
The family asked that all contributions in memory of Welch be donated to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 787, Red Bluff, 96080.
