David passed away May 14, 2017 about 3:30 pm…His body just couldn’t handle anymore, he was on life support for his lungs & kidneys. The doctors tried a couple procedures to try to help and he went into cardiac arrest and they couldn’t bring him back….we know he is at peace with his God.

Jerry Dufloth – Class of 1961

Our community lost a very special person yesterday, Jerry Dufloth. The service will be Service for Jerry Dufloth will be Saturday May 20, 2017 at the Trona Cemetery at 11:00 AM.  We will gather at the Trona Elks Lodge after the service. Gerald Arthur Dufloth was born on June 26, 1943, in Madera, California, his father, Arthur, was 34 and his mother, Viola, was 27. He died on May 11, 2017, in California, at the age of 73, and was buried in Trona, California. Jerry was a graduate of Trona High School and has been a long time resident of Trona. His brother Dennis Allen died on October 2, 2004, when Gerald Arthur was 61 years old.

Sheryl (Wotring) Suchoski: Class of 1968

Sheryl Ann (Wotring) Suchoski (67), resident of St. Maries, ID, passed away at her home on April 27, 2017, after a very courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on January 5, 1950, in Trona, California, to John and Rita (Reese) Wotring.  She grew up in Trona and graduated from Trona High School with the class of 1968.  Following high school, Sheryl attended Bakersfield College for 2 years.  She graduated from Cerro Coso College in 1976, with an Associate’s degree.

Sheryl married Donald Suchoski in Trona, CA, on October 7, 1972.  The couple had 3 children: Patrick, born in 1974; Ryan, born in 1976; and Sara, born in 1979.  She worked for Trona Railroad from 1980-1982.  In 1982 she moved with her family to Colstrip, MT, and then moved to St. Maries, ID, in 1984.  Sheryl and Don opened the Entertainer, and she worked at the video store until it closed in 2004.  She then went to work at the Liquor Store, retiring in 2015.  Sheryl also began working for her son Pat at Tenth Street Lumber in 2009 and was currently working there at the time of her death.

Living on the St. Joe River was one of Sheryl’s biggest joys and she loved her home.  She also loved living life, including dancing, boating, shopping, and meeting up with “The Girls.”  Most of all, Sheryl loved her family.

Sheryl is survived by her children: Pat (Shawnna) Suchoski, Ryan (Mia) Suchoski, Sara (Jeremy) Seyferth, and their father, Don Suchoski, all of St. Maries, ID. Grandchildren include: Jesse, Morgan, Bethan, Cassidy, Kade, Gabriel, Nicholas, Danek, Brennen, Mari, Briallen, Wyatt, Austin, Hunter, and Ryan II Suchoski; Isaac and Ella Seyferth; and Cassidy (Kristina) West, all of St. Maries, ID.  Also surviving are her brother Lee (Gwen) Wotring and family of St. Maries, ID, and sister-in-law Novella Wotring and family of California.  She is preceded in death by her father and step-mother John and Jean Wotring, her mother and step-father Rita and Alvis Peart, brother John Wotring Jr., and granddaughter Magdalen Suchoski.

A graveside service will be Thursday May 4, 2017, at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, ID.  A gathering of family and friends to share a barbecue potluck will follow at Sheryl’s home.

Garnett Lucille (Traylor) Johnson Thornton – Class of 1948

Bingo Extraordinaire and Loyal Laker Fan Garnett Lucille Traylor Johnson Thornton peacefully passed away in her sleep on Friday, April 28, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. After a brief illness, Jesus decided to send a dove to fly her to heaven to watch over her family and be reunited with her loving husband James Coleman Johnson.

Born in Adel, Oklahoma on February 23, 1924, Lucille spent her first 21years in her home state, later moving to Trona, California for 38 years and spending her last 34 years in Lake Isabella, CA. Lucille married James Coleman Johnson on February 22, 1939. While in Trona, Lucille graduated from Trona High School in 1948, attended some college, worked for the US Post Office (33 years), and attained her Real Estate license. She really ramped up her 36-year Real Estate career in Lake Isabella and still held her license.

During her full and eventful life, Lucille enjoyed sewing, oil painting, Bingo, the Lakers, serving in her community, bowling, traveling, exploring new places, & working at the Senior Center, the VFW and the Moose Lodge. She never met a stranger and was always very fair and honest. She was strong and everyone relied on her for advice, assistance and guidance.

Lucille is survived by her sister Lillie Traylor Archer in Oklahoma, her two daughters-Bessie Johnson Wiles and Anna Sue Johnson Eldridge and son-in-law Benny.

Five grandchildren and spouses: Cindy Greenwood (Russell), Lauretta Eldridge, Alan Wiles (Jan), Justin Eldridge (Leslie), Chimene Jackson (Johnnie).

Great Grandchildren and spouses: Brandon Aldridge (Megan), Kelly Rueby (Robert), Victoria Flame (Tony), Brooke Waltman (Danny), Jessica Greenwood, Westley Heidelberger (Braelynn), Isaac Greenwood, Emmett, Evan, and Julia Sarver.

Great-Great Grandchildren: Heather Rueby, Elijah Aldridge, Mason Waltman, Drake Rueby, Caroline Aldridge, and Katherine Flame.

Her friend Albert Ellison.

… Many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Lucille is preceded in death by her husbands James Coleman Johnson, and Reppard Thornton, her parents Adolphus and Laurenia Traylor, her sister, brothers and their spouses: Ethel Morlan (Everett), Tommie Traylor (Bea), Ikey Traylor (Ruby), and son-in-law Dewey Wiles.

Viewing on Friday, May 12th, will be from 9:00am-1:00pm at Lake Isabella Valley Mortuary located at 5108 Lake Isabella Blvd, Lake Isabella, CA 93240.

Services are planned for Saturday, May 13th at Mountain View Southern Baptist Church, Lake Isabella, CA. Viewing will begin at 10:00am, service following at 11:00am.

Graveside services will be 2:30pm, at Desert Memorial Park, Ridgecrest, CA.

Guests are encouraged to wear her favorite color of purple and/or a hat in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Lake Isabella VFW Auxiliary.

Francis (Brown) Atkins – Class of 1961

Frances Ann Atkins, 73, of Lavaca Arkansas went to be with the Lord on April 3rd 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 23, 1943 to Thomas Henry (T.H.) Brown and Frances Laverne Berkshire Brown. She was married to Gerald Atkins for 55 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and great-grandson, Evan Atkins.

Frances is survived by her Husband, Gerald Wade and four loving sons: Dan (Diane) of Conway; Jim (Charla) of Greenwood; Matt (Stacy) of Lavaca and Tom (Angie) of Fort Smith. Seven Grandchildren: Jeremy (Sarah) Atkins and Sarah Atkins of Conway; Shelby and Maycee Atkins of Greenwood; Joshua (Megan) Atkins of VanBuren; Jordan Atkins of Lavaca and Tyler Atkins of Fort Smith. One great-grandchild Cassie Atkins of VanBuren. Frances is also survived by one loving brother, Tommy Dan Brown (Judy) of Greenwood, AR and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Central City.

She was a Sunday School teacher for many years in Lavaca and in California. Frances was a 1961 graduate of Trona High School in Trona California.

Frances was a life-long homemaker . For all who knew her, you know she was happiest when her home was filled with family and friends. She found great joy cooking and camping with her friends and family. She loved playing games, especially marbles, with her grandchildren.

There will be a visitation Friday, April 7th from 6-8 p.m. at First Southern Baptist in Central City. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8th at 10 a.m. at First Southern in Central City, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home, with burial at Lavaca cemetery immediately following. Brother Russ Tyler will officiate the services.

Pallbearers are Jeremy Atkins, Joshua Atkins, Tyler Atkins, Robin Cameron, Mike Ray, Darren Brown, Charles Parish, Michael Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers are Dewayne Glidewell, Frankie Glidewell, Johnny Glidewell, Kenny Hobbs, Leon Meyer, Dennis Odom and Arnold Sexton.

Lasting memorials may be made to First Southern Baptist Children’s Ministries.

Bette Dilbeck

Bette (Dilbeck) Flint – Class of 1953

After an extended series of health challenges, one of the Almighty’s special ladies was elevated to her eternal rest Monday November 14, 2016. Bette Dilbeck Flint, wife and life partner to George Flint, quietly passed away on her and George’s 47th wedding anniversary.

Bette was born to Arlo Dilbeck and Imogene Jewell Stover Dilbeck, both deceased. Her sibling sisters, Phyllis and Dorothy, also both preceded Bette in her passing. She leaves a sister, Sandy Dilbeck of Carson City.

This wonderful lady was Mom and Stepmom to six children, Marni Louise Stauts of Boise, Idaho and Dean Robert of Reno. She was also “Mom” to George’s four children: Jackie Pryor of Sparks, Margaret Flint of Reno, Peggy “Jody” Byers previously deceased and Michael Geoffrey Flint of sparks.

Several Grandchildren also survive Bette. These include Gretchen of Denver, Hannah of Stanley, ID, Stan of Fernley and Melody Grace, Stephanie, Gregory, Alexandria, Emmali Jacquelyn, Ellen Grace, Ben and Caleb all of Reno. A dozen Great Grandchildren also are left to miss their “Nana”.

Bette was at St. Mary’s Hospital Reno at the time of her demise. George Flint held her close to himself as she breathed her last.

There will be, at her request, no formal funeral or memorial. Bette had many friends who will also miss her greatly.

Her husband told so many on Monday that God created only one lady of Bette’s unique qualities. All who knew her loved her. Better was born December 24, 1934 and would have been 82 her next birthday.

Class of 1953 50th Reunion Pat Stevens, Jim Ewing, Patty Hess, Betty Dilbeck, Larry Knowles, Sylvia Chavarria This is the class of 1953’s 50th reunion held in 2003. Jim Ewing died in March of 2012.

Note: Bette’s first husband and father of her two children was Richard Goss. He graduated from Trona High School in 1947.

Joseph Bermani — Class of 1950

Joseph Bermani was born on May 7, 1918, in Connecticut, his father, Giovanni, was 35 and his mother, Giovanna, was 29. Joseph was a machinist for AP&CC. He attended adult education night classes at Trona High School and graduated in 1950. He had one son and one daughter with Phyllis J Antonaitis. Their daughter, Patricia Hudson, died in 2010. She was a member of the class of 1958 and his son David graduated from THS in 1961. Phyllis died in 2015. Joseph died on June 28, 2016, at the age of 98, and was buried in Oceanside, California.
